Dragon's Blood has been living in my head rent-free for ages! It all started when my husband and I were rewatching True Blood before the final season. In my version of things, Cree was Sookie’s friend and worked as a waitress at Merlotte’s—hence where the bar and Leland came from. By the time I actually started writing Dragon's Blood, the actor who played Lafayette had sadly passed, and since Lafayette was my absolute favorite, I had to make sure he lived on. So, Leland? Yeah, totally inspired by him—he’s basically immortalized in that character.

Cree, though? Oh, she was originally going to be this badass fairy-witch combo hiding in plain sight, but things changed (as they always do, right?). She evolved into the berserker warrior we know now. And Coven? He was just supposed to be a regular werewolf that Cree fell for, but then I was like, nah, let’s make him this 40-foot white wolf with hundreds of glowing red eyes (because let’s be real, I love Sesshomaru from Inuyasha too much not to sprinkle in a little of that vibe).

Then the whole world of The Mirror just started taking on a life of its own. Once I finally started writing in 2017, I couldn’t stop! It went through four different versions before it landed where it is now—with Cree waking up in a park, being hunted by some creepy creature in soggy rags. And that’s where the real adventure kicks off!

Tattered Realm almost didn’t happen! Dragon’s Blood was supposed to be a quick, standalone novelette, but then Tattered Realm swooped in and became the bridge between Dragon’s Blood and Endless Crimson, turning the whole thing into the epic series it is today. When I first started writing it, I actually called it War of Nightmares—because, well, monsters attacking the human world sounded about right! But after my editor, Halie, worked her magic on the whole series, it transformed into something so much better.

I won't spoil anything major, but let’s just say... an innocent little fairy turns evil.

Endless Crimson is hands down my favorite in the whole series! Funny thing is, I actually wrote it before Dragon’s Blood, just for fun. I had this dream about the start of the book, and it scratched my brain in the perfect way. Back then, it was all about war—Evin getting caught up in the chaos, and the pools cranking out obedient soldiers. But after I finished Dragon’s Blood and revisited Endless Crimson, I realized I needed to shake things up and make it part of the series. Cue major rewrites!

Then I sent it over to my editor, Halie, who suggested focusing more on Xix instead of Corbin, which ended up being genius. It made the story flow right into the fourth book, which—surprise!—was based on another dream I had.

But seriously, this book is my favorite because of the setting. Death Valley just has my heart, and I don’t even know why! Something about the quiet, the history, the vastness... it tugs at my soul every time.

Remnant is yet another dream that blossomed into a story! I only had the first chapter written and kind of tucked it away for a while. But once I added Endless Crimson and Tattered Realm into the mix, my brain kept nudging me to bring this story to life, mainly because of the fabulous main character, Calista—a fairy-demon hybrid.

In the first version, it was all about Calista and Torren’s relationship. But then, a month before I sent it off to Halie, I suddenly heard Halie's voice in my head, and I was like, “Whoa, this needs a serious rewrite!” So, I revamped the entire thing to focus more on the epic showdown between Calista and the “Ancient Beasts,” with Torren tagging along because he’s just the sweetest little werewolf.

But honestly, their relationship is my absolute favorite out of all of them! Sometimes I catch myself rereading their scenes just because I miss writing all their adorable moments. They're so cute together!

which direction?
